Helping People Feel Welcome in the Kinky Community

We love being members of a kinky community — online and in-person. And we also appreciate the hard work that goes into hosting events and facilitating meet-ups. But after a few events where we felt like the odd-people out, we have a few thoughts about welcoming people into the kinky community.

In this episode:

  • This week’s episode is sponsored by The Cage — a BDSM community made for kinky people by kinky people.
  • Podcast Award nominations
  • We went to a munch where we were practically ignored — and many people knew each other
  • This wasn’t the first event where it happened — two or three events have gone this way
  • How it feels when you’re new
  • What the community and event hosts can do
  • What new people can do

    Hello
This was a great episode and is so timely for me right now. I am a moderator of my own group that holds monthly munches. My group is very niche. It is for women who love other women. Lesbian, transgendered, bisexual and pansexual are welcome. The group has been around for awhile but getting ladies to come out and talk about sex and then on top of that it’s kinky sex! It’s hard!!!
I pride myself on addressing everyone who comes through the munch. I have been to other munches that I have experienced the same that ya’ll went through. It was rough. That’s why I started my own group! It’s not fun to feel left out. Im sorry to hear you folks went through that.
Thank you so much for telling folks to continue to try munches! Thank you for telling folks to say hello to newbies! In my opinion, I believe it’s everyone’s responsibility to make people feel comfy and welcome. That’s how you build community!
    Thanks for a great podcast!!
